A good way to by sustainable fashion (rather than the throw-away variety) is to buy shoes that will last and the fit properly. They should serve their purpose and accommodate your feet in a comfortable way - allowing you to walk  for miles in them if necessary. Having feet slightly  too wide for most off the shelf shoes, I normally buy cheap plimsoll type footwear which wears out in two weeks of running about town. Then I have to chuck them in the bin. It's not on really and I am adding to the problem of both cheap labour shoes and un-biodegradable things going to landfill. So next time you (any of you) go shoe shopping - measure your feet first and make an informed, sensible choice.
